Len is kind of entranced by the rich. It's the same kind of thing that has people go on tours of Buckingham Palace--amazement that people could live like that and have that much. It incites a feeling of wonder as he simply can't imagine having that much money, and their family hasn't ever had too much to spare.

With this said, he's not bitter about it at all--though he'd no doubt be pretty overjoyed if they came into money, he knows from experience that it isn't everything. In this way, he doesn't 'envy' the rich but tends to 'admire' them instead. He assumes they must've worked hard to get there and deserve everything they have.

He'll usually act as usual, but perhaps even more quiet and agreeable with someone he sees as rich, simply because he thinks they're probably better than him. All the same, this would wear off as he gets to know them--if they're a 'kind person' (a conclusion Len reaches easily), he defines them as a friend regardless of income.
